MailChimp is a great option if you're just starting your mailing list as it’s free for your first 2,000 email subscribers. You can create forms, customise newsletters and send regular emails to your following all on the free plan!
Here’s some of the advantages of MailChimp:
- Drag and drop templates
- Customisable design
- Compatible with social media
- Mobile optimised
- Subscriber profiles
- Member rating system
- Performance reports
- Integrates with popular apps
So if you’re looking for a free email service provider to get started, MailChimp is a great option!
Sumo is a free plugin with great features to help you build your email list. My favourite features are the 'List Builder', 'Scroll Box', ‘Welcome Mat’ and 'Smart Bar' which all help to convert your website traffic into email subscribers.
The ‘List Builder’ feature allows you to add a popup form to your website, which is a very effective way to convert website traffic into email subscribers. They also have a variety of customisable templates, so it’s super easy to create a stylish looking form.
The ‘Scroll Box’ feature allows you to add a slide in form to your website. This is similar to a popup form, but it’s slightly more subtle because it slides in at the bottom corner of the screen. This is less intrusive as it doesn’t interrupt the entire screen. There’s also options to set change the timing of the popup, so you can test out what works best for you!
The ‘Welcome Mat’ feature allows you to create a form that fills the entire screen when a visitor lands on your website. This ensures every visitor will be given the option to join your email list before they view the rest of your website.
The ‘Smart Bar’ feature places an opt-in form at the very top of your website. This is one of the first things your visitor will see when they land upon a page of your website, so it’s a great way to get people’s attention quickly.
Sumo is also mobile friendly, so you can trust it will be compatible on all devices and ensure all your website visitors have the same browsing experience!
3. Hello Bar
Hello Bar is another free software that is similar to the ‘smart bar’ feature from Sumo. It displays a ‘hello bar’ at the top of your website, so you can display a message or announcement to your visitors. This is a great way to feature your opt-in incentive or direct traffic towards your landing page, so more people sign up for your email list!
Hello Bar has a variety of customisation options, so you can design the bar to suit your needs. You can change the size of the bar, the background colours and text, add an opt-in form and choose whether you want to display the bar at the top or bottom of the page.
If you’re using a free Hello Bar account, they do feature the Hello Bar logo in the corner, however you can always upgrade to the premium plan if you find this tool useful and wish to remove the branding!
