I’ve always thought, if every creative entrepreneur knew the positive impact blogging could have on their business, they would all be starting up a blog right now.
Blogging is such a powerful tool to attract your ideal readers and turn them into paying customers. Think about it… as a small business owner blogging about your field, the people that are going to be interested in the content you are blogging about are the exact people that will also be interested in the products or services you have to offer.
Most people don’t realise this, so I’m going to share with you why I believe every creative entrepreneur should start a blog.
Blogging increases your site traffic.
Get yourself known.
Blogging is a great way to get your name out there. Especially for a small business in an over-saturated industry. Creating quality blog posts gives people a reason to visit your site and keep coming back for more useful information. Soon enough people will start to notice and remember you as a great resource in your creative field.
Build your mailing list.
If people are going to give away their email address, they usually want something in return. Blogging provides a great way to build your mailing list. Within each post you can create email opt-ins with free downloads as an incentive to sign up. This way if a reader enjoys your blog post, they will often sign up to get more information or the freebie. Now you also have the opportunity to keep them informed about your latest posts and products or services.
Reach a larger audience of potential customers.
Blogging about relevant topics of your creative field is going to attract a larger audience of potential customers. More people will discover your business through your blog posts and this gives you the perfect opportunity to turn readers that stumble across your blog into frequent visitors. Your readers will then begin to trust you more, making them more likely to purchase a product or service you offer.
Blogging is one of the best ways to increase your SEO.
Quality content ranks higher.
Search engines, like Google, prefer quality content that has value to readers. Blog articles like this will rank much higher in the search results. The more high performing blog posts you have, the more it will help increase the overall SEO of your website.
Readers will share content they enjoy.
Readers are likely to share blog articles that were useful to them. Not only does this result in more people discovering your website, but each share creates a backlink to your website. This will have a big impact on your SEO because search engines consider a website to be useful and more value to readers, if people have shared or linked to the content.
Blogging increases your keyword density in the right way.
Thats right, there’s a right and wrong way to include keywords in your site. The days of cramming keywords throughout your site are definitely over, search engines consider this spam and will not rank you highly.
Blogging about a topic related to your website will naturally include relevant keywords throughout your blog articles in the right way. This is because you are providing information on a topic that is useful to readers, and search engines appreciate this.
Rank in search terms you hadn’t thought of.
Blogging is a great way to rank highly in a broader range of search terms relating to your site. For example, if you’re a photographer, search terms such as ‘photographer’ and ‘photography tips’ might be very popular and therefore hard to rank on.
But blogging about different aspects of photography could help get you rank higher in search terms you hadn’t thought of, like ‘top photography tools for beginners’ or ‘how to make the most of natural lighting for photos’. You will then be attracting readers to your blog, that can turn into potential customers.
Blogging gives you the opportunity to show that you’re an expert in your field.
Prove to readers you know what you’re talking about.
Sharing your knowledge with your readers, proves to them that you are an expert in your field. I mean you wouldn’t blog about a topic you knew nothing about, would you? Readers are more likely to trust you after reading your blog articles, because it proves to them you’re the real deal and you know what you’re talking about. They are then more likely to purchase a product or service from you over a competitor, because they trust you from the information you’ve already shared.
Showcase your strengths.
Blogging provides the perfect opportunity to show readers and potential customers what you can do. If you’re an artist, blog about all the amazing pieces you’ve made in the past, and your process to creating a masterpiece. If you’re an event planner, blog about the most recent events you planned and how you make each event unique.
Your blog is the place to show off yourself and your work. When people see what you can do, the bookings will start rolling in.
Stand out from your competitors.
Your blog is your chance to stand out from everyone else in your industry. Show people what makes your business unique and why you stand out from the rest. Your blog might even be what sets you apart, so use it to your advantage.
Provide reasons why people should work with you.
People love to know what goes on behind the scenes and telling them makes them feel a little bit closer to you. So use your blog posts to explain what you do and how you do it, just make sure to point out all the reasons why your services benefit the potential customer. This will make readers realise the value of your services.
You will build a trusting relationship with your readers.
Keep your readers coming back for more.
If you provide consistent valuable content, your readers will keep coming back for more. The more they trust and rely on your free blog content, the more willing they will be to purchase any products or services you offer.
Learn more about your audience, and what they want from you.
Blogging is a great opportunity to get to know your audience. Interact with your readers in the comments and get to know them. Not only will this build a stronger and more trusting relationship, but you can start to find out what they struggle with most in your niche, you can then build products or services that solve them. If you’re offering something your audience really needs, they won’t hesitate to jump on board.
Convert readers into returning customers.
Consistent blogging will help you gain a following of people interested in what you have to offer. Your readers are always more likely to purchase from you than someone who hasn’t read your blog. Your existing customers are more likely to return if you keep updating them with what’s new. This massively takes the pressure off worrying where you’ll find your next customer, which is common for creative entrepreneurs that don’t blog.
I hope I’ve helped to inspire you that starting a blog could be the best decision you ever make for your business. Watch this space for more blogging tips coming soon!
